Music without the cable runs.
A battery-powered RF mixer/interface concept exploring wireless audio, portability, and accessible recording.
The idea
Could a portable audio system give recording engineers more freedom in where and how they capture sound? This concept explores a battery-powered mixer/interface with RF inputs and outputs.
Design goals
- Support creative recording techniques for both beginner and experienced engineers.
- Use off-the-shelf components to help keep design and consumer costs low.
- Consider recycled plastic and, where feasible, solar cells.
A system that could grow
The two-channel concept proposes an RF receiver, an RF transmitter, battery operation, and a 32-bit, 192 kHz ADC/DAC. The ten-channel extension adds ideas including an optical input, phase inversion, signal generation, a stereo output bus, a stereo limiter, and a frequency graph.
Questions worth exploring
The presentation also asks how wireless audio might serve studios, classrooms, boardrooms, and live events. Further ideas include an analog recording/loop pedal and a device that records light alongside sound.
